[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:09] Speaker B: The podcast for those who find themselves immersed in adversity and choose to write their story instead of having others.
[00:00:17] Speaker C: Write it for them. I'm Drew Duraney and I'm your host.
[00:00:21] Speaker B: Today's guest is Jared Fracker. Jared Fracker is a skilled sales and leadership coach with a passion for entrepreneurship and a proven track record of building successful businesses. Starting with his first business built while attending Cleveland State University, Jared's entrepreneurial spirit and hard work paid off as he launched the business with no startup capital through Door to Door marketing on Lake Erie's shore in February to acquire his first 100 customers. The business continued to grow rapidly from there. A few of Jared's accomplishments include Business grew to seven figures annually in less than five years. Business was recognized nationally by Vault as number one for leadership development, took top producers on trips annually to Cancun, Las Vegas, California and Canada. Through his experience as a business owner, Jared developed a love for building teams and hiring top producers who fit the culture of the business. He understands the importance of companies culture and and believes that it's the foundation for success. Jared's expertise in sales, hiring and team building has helped him build successful sales teams and develop strong leaders throughout his career. Now, as a sales and leadership coach, Jared is committed to helping his clients achieve their goals and develop the skills they need to succeed. He understands the challenges that business owners and leaders face and is passionate about helping them overcome obstacles and achieve success.
Jared's coaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that hard work, dedication and a growth mindset paired with an impactful mentor are the keys to success. When Jared isn't working, he's often taking on life with his significant other, Cassidy, playing his guitar, listening to audiobooks, or challenging himself with a tough video game. One of Jared's most treasured hobbies, however, is taking his dog Lily on long walks and adventures. He'll often spend his weekends with Lillian Cassidy, exploring new trails and parks, taking in the sights and sounds of the great outdoors. Jared believes that these moments of relaxation and rejuvenation are just as important as his work, as he strives to bring a sense of balance and joy to.
[00:02:33] Speaker C: Every aspect of his life.
[00:02:36] Speaker B: He's also passionate about serving the community, attending church on Sunday, connecting with friends and loved ones, and he believes that strong relationships are essential to a fulfilling life. Whether it's business, hobbies or relationships, Jared brings the same level of passion and dedication that he brings to his coaching practice.
[00:02:56] Speaker C: Enjoy the show Jared. Great to see you.
[00:03:00] Speaker A: Yes, yes, it's good to see you again. I know, it's been a while.
[00:03:03] Speaker C: It has. It's been a while. That's why I always like grabbing like 10 minutes before we hit record to catch up on things and refresh our memories and also learn some new things that are going on with each.
Well, first of all, I always like to thank the person who introduced us. And you and I met at a networking event called Network Hub assembly, which is the founder of that is Frank Agan, who's probably, I would say, the best networker and connector in the country. So thank you, Frank Agan, for introducing Jared and me through your networking event.
[00:03:37] Speaker A: And he is just a rock throw for me in Columbus because I'm in Cincinnati.
[00:03:42] Speaker C: All right.
[00:03:43] Speaker A: He's. Yeah, he's pretty close to me.
[00:03:45] Speaker C: Another good Ohio person. I love it.
[00:03:48] Speaker A: There you go.
[00:03:48] Speaker C: I love it.
[00:03:49] Speaker A: Oh, baby.
[00:03:50] Speaker C: Absolutely. So, you know, I wanted, you know, you on the show for a variety of reasons and people are going to learn about why. But I always like to have good human beings on my show, first of all, and people who are not afraid of being, coming, being vulnerable and sharing their story because sharing our story, whether we're male or female, is, is healthy for us.
We. We can heal ourselves from within by sharing our story. And in turn, we can heal other people who are going through the similar, similar issues. So I thank you for being here. So happy to be here. Yeah. No, this is awesome. So, so, Jared, you know, when we're, when we're young and it's not malicious intent, but we're taught by our family that life is linear, right? If you, if you do certain things, A plus, B plus C, D is going to happen. And, and I probably did it with my, I did do it with my kids because you want them to be safe. You want them to, you want that to happen. And for the most part, life is linear until it's not. And as we get older, an external circumstance happens, gets in between these letters and causes us to go into this circuitous route. And I, I often tell people that I believe there's three types of men, yet man number one, who's covered in blind spots, has no idea what's going on, just going through the motions in life, and that's it. Note, nothing changes. Then you have man number two who sees the adversity, considers himself a victim, blames the world, goes through life just the way it is. Nothing changes. And there's my number three, which you're man number three. And that's who I interview on this show, man or woman number three. And that's the person who sees the adversity and yet has more of a growth. Mindset. Mindset. A higher level of awareness and says, you know what? This is an opportunity for improvement. This is life happening for me. I'm going to take this on and do something different, become a stronger person. And that's what I believe you have done.
So with that, I'm going to ask you to go back as far as you need to to grab that defining moment. Whether it was a tap on the shoulder, the whisper in the ear, or like I needed 2x4 upside the head to get me to say, I'm sick of this. So when was it that tell us that divining moment where you said, jared, better way to live, man. I'm going to do things differently and become stronger.
[00:06:16] Speaker A: Oh, it's a tough question. It is story so, and I love what you said. I mean, I, I, I believe that we are taught it's a very cause and effect world. Right. Like you said, A happens, you know, and then, you know, we're expecting the outcome from that. B will, you'll see B as a result.
And going back to your question, I think you become person three gradually. Like, yes, there might be a defining moment, which I actually do have one in my life, but for a lot of people, it's, it's probably just like a gradual. I got, I get a client that's like, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. Absolutely. I'm finally, I'm finally aware of that. Like, when I'm sick and tired of sick and tired, I'll make a difference. Right. It took him gradually getting to that point to, to actually do something about it or be willing to do anything about it.
[00:07:18] Speaker C: Absolutely.
[00:07:19] Speaker A: For me, I mean, you know, I, I shared this with a little bit with you before, but, I mean, I had a pretty massive stroke at 25.
[00:07:27] Speaker C: Unbelievable.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: It was like three weeks after my 25th birthday, you know, out downtown Cleveland, eating some wings during wing week with one of my old fraternity buddies. Right. And Mandre, it was like something out of a movie, you know, I was like, we were leaving one place to go into another, you know, and just like at the counter, I would like, lost feeling in my life. And I started to like, you know, sit down at the counter and then over in the, the dining area, like, of course it's causing a commotion. They're like, ah, I don't know what's happening. Right. And then two doctors from the Cleveland Clinic were there and they're like, we've Seen this. Call the stroke ambulance. They, like, helped me in the moment.
Thirty minutes later, I'm like, on an operating table.
[00:08:22] Speaker C: Oh, my God.
[00:08:23] Speaker A: You know, if you know what ECMO is, it's like the last ditch effort they do to try to save your life and.
[00:08:30] Speaker C: Right.
[00:08:30] Speaker A: They put me on that. They, you know, I was pronounced dead for four minutes. It's in a coma for dead 10 days.
I mean, it truly just like, you talk about a wake up moment.
[00:08:40] Speaker C: Oh, my gosh.
[00:08:41] Speaker A: There. There it is right there. Right.
But, you know, and that's just the start of it. I mean, I had to learn to walk again.
[00:08:50] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:08:51] Speaker A: I was probably in the ICU for a total of two months and then the hospital for three.
So I went in, there was snow on the ground, and I came out and it was spring.
Like, it's just. It's wild.
And, you know, that's pretty drastic. Right. But I mean, people go through something like that at some point in their lives. Like, stuff will happen.
[00:09:20] Speaker C: Yeah. Right.
[00:09:23] Speaker A: But I've always been a person of. Okay, I'm gonna prove people wrong. Yeah.
And I. I was. You know, I grew up playing sports, and I tore three ACLs playing basketball. Yeah. And. And it's. I guess it started, you know, in that realm, but. So that's a big believer of what drove me to, you know, kind of become this person.
[00:09:48] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:09:49] Speaker A: It was a little bit over time of just stuff always happening to me. I mean, and as I shared before, it started at, like, three months old.
[00:09:58] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:09:58] Speaker A: When I actually had a pretty rare heart disease.
And I still do. It's. They don't know what causes it.
And, you know, at three months old, it was either a heart lung transplant in Philadelphia or downtown New York, some trial medication that had just been FDA approved like, the month or two prior. I. I don't know exactly when. I mean, it was a long time ago.
[00:10:25] Speaker C: Right, sure. Absolutely.
[00:10:27] Speaker A: But, yeah, I mean, that medication basically saved my life. I think my parents weren't looking forward to a heart lung transplant.
[00:10:34] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:10:36] Speaker A: So. Yeah. So I went on that vacation and I was. It was kind of like a little miracle. I mean, I was on it from like three months to five years and near normal numbers. And, I mean, I had to go back to New York like, every three to six months for a while, just for tests and checkups and all that kind of stuff. But, yeah, I got to live a pretty normal life. I mean, people with this disease, they don't typically get to do that. They're.
[00:11:01] Speaker C: It's unbelievable.
[00:11:02] Speaker A: I know. They go up like a flight of stairs and their heart explodes because of the pressure in their heart.
It's tough. So.
[00:11:11] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:11:11] Speaker A: I think for the. The longest time, I was like, man, I don't want anyone to know I have this.
[00:11:17] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:11:18] Speaker A: Disease. Or. Or I to be different. Like, I. I don't want any of the other kids to think I'm different or, you know, anything like that. Right.
But I think I got to a point, especially after my stroke, where I did. I didn't really care anymore. Like, I wanted to be the person that people that first of all, that they knew those things happen to.
[00:11:43] Speaker C: Right.
[00:11:43] Speaker A: And they're like, wow, look what they're. What they're doing now.
[00:11:46] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:11:47] Speaker A: Somebody that looked up to. And. And now they're. I don't want to say like a role model, but, you know, they draw inspiration.
[00:11:57] Speaker C: Oh, absolutely. Inspirational. So you were able to be able to play sports at a high level with that. Heart disease is unbelievable too. That's great.
[00:12:06] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, it's a short miracle in and of itself.
It's funny, people always ask me, you know, are you a glass half full or half empty type of person? That's good question, I'm sure. Have you heard that question before?
[00:12:21] Speaker C: I have. I have. And I understand why they would ask you that. What was your answer?
[00:12:25] Speaker A: Yeah. So. And I'll. I have to give the credit to one of my clients.
[00:12:30] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:12:31] Speaker A: She. Enlightenment enlightened me to this answer, which I'm stealing. But the answer is I'm. I'm just happy to have a glass.
[00:12:42] Speaker C: Oh, I like that.
[00:12:43] Speaker A: Right.
[00:12:44] Speaker C: I. That gratitude there, man. Just for glass. I love it.
[00:12:50] Speaker A: And you know, people, they truly don't realize what they do have. They're always focused on what they don't.
[00:12:58] Speaker C: Exactly.
[00:12:59] Speaker A: Yeah. Person number two probably does this all the time.
[00:13:02] Speaker C: Right.
[00:13:04] Speaker A: So. So yeah, if you. If you could kind of shift your mindset and unlock that. That's kind of like the first step.
[00:13:11] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:13:11] Speaker A: Into just believing you can. Right?
[00:13:14] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:13:15] Speaker A: True. I don't know who the quote spy you. You might know, but it's like whether you believe you can or you can't. You're right.
[00:13:21] Speaker C: I have heard that. And it's been attributed to a couple people, but yeah, I like that. It's. It's true. It's true.
[00:13:26] Speaker A: And yeah. So it's like, number one, just believe that you can do it. And then. Okay, now I'm a very problem solution type of person.
[00:13:34] Speaker C: Right.
[00:13:34] Speaker A: So it's like, okay, if there's a problem. Okay, now what? Right. Yeah. I Love that now and then you get to focus on the solution and what you can do about it, which has probably led to everything that I've been able to do after that, so.
[00:13:51] Speaker C: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, once you're able to learn what you cannot control and you're okay with it, and then tackle what you can control, it is very helpful to lead a fulfilling life.
So how old are you now?
[00:14:10] Speaker A: I will be.
Oh, dear. I should know this pretty quickly, shouldn't I?
[00:14:16] Speaker C: Yeah. How old are you?
[00:14:18] Speaker A: I'm 27. You're 27?
[00:14:20] Speaker C: This is only a couple years ago, the stroke.
[00:14:22] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:14:23] Speaker C: Oh, my gosh. It's that. You know what? That's even more unbelievable because, you know, if you hadn't told the story, none of us would know.
[00:14:32] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, and honestly, that's my hope from people just seeing me out in the world that they have no idea.
[00:14:40] Speaker C: Absolutely.
[00:14:41] Speaker A: Yeah. But I mean, I can't lie. It's been a journey to get back.
[00:14:45] Speaker C: Of course. Sure.
[00:14:46] Speaker A: You know, just going back to the gratitude, just like being able to tell your brain or tell your body parts to move the way you want them to move.
[00:14:59] Speaker C: Right.
[00:14:59] Speaker A: I mean, that in itself is a luxury that I now realize that I have. Most people, it's, it's, it's. Comes natural. They don't think about it.
[00:15:08] Speaker C: It's.
[00:15:09] Speaker A: Yeah. So it's just like, just things like that. Right. You're just so much more appreciative for.
[00:15:14] Speaker C: Absolutely.
[00:15:16] Speaker A: Some, some. A little more details. I, I had a trach for like three months.
[00:15:21] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:15:22] Speaker A: Not three months.
Probably like a month and a half.
[00:15:26] Speaker C: Month and a half. Yeah. Okay.
[00:15:27] Speaker A: Yeah. But I mean, I couldn't. I mean, couldn't drink water, Couldn't do any of that.
[00:15:33] Speaker C: Yeah, Yeah.
[00:15:34] Speaker A: I mean, I was hooked up to a machine to breathe. So. Yeah. Just. You have a hole in your throat, like an open hole.
[00:15:40] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I've seen that. Yeah. It's. Yeah. It's not something we want or expect, but you're right. We take a lot of mundane things for granted in life that are important.
[00:15:54] Speaker A: So all those things, I mean, it's easy and I'm. I'm not going to discount any. Whatever anybody's going through or what anyone is feeling.
[00:16:03] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:16:04] Speaker A: All that kind of stuff. Right.
But if you can shift your mind into, okay, now what.
[00:16:09] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:16:12] Speaker A: Then it becomes something you can try to improve.
[00:16:18] Speaker C: Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Thank you for sharing that, Jared.
[00:16:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:16:22] Speaker C: So. So with that really awareness and I'm still shocked that it's been only two years, I'M so proud of you, man. And you got so much more time to give. The fact that you're electing to pay it forward and share your story is going to help a lot of people. Yeah.
[00:16:43] Speaker A: No, I appreciate that.
[00:16:44] Speaker C: Yeah. So tell me, with your newfound appreciation for the mundane things to be grateful for, how has that helped you personally and professionally?
[00:16:58] Speaker A: Well, I think I get to almost change the lens out when I look, because what I do is. Is sales and leadership coaching.
[00:17:08] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:17:08] Speaker A: Right. So I hear a lot of people come to me through, you know, to get a coach. They come to me with this type of stuff. Right. These are the barriers that they need to get across.
[00:17:20] Speaker C: Right.
[00:17:20] Speaker A: You know, in the professional world, so to speak.
So what that's allowed me to do is, number one, to empathize with people wherever they're at, kind of meet them where they're at.
[00:17:32] Speaker C: Right.
[00:17:33] Speaker A: And say, oh, okay, where do you want to be?
And then. And then we just chip away at it and take, you know, figure out what it's going to take to get there. And. And we slowly give them the skills, the systems, and the motivation to get there.
So that's one piece, I think. And then. Did you ask me personally?
[00:17:55] Speaker C: Yeah, well, whatever you want to share. Absolutely.
[00:18:03] Speaker A: I feel like I've been woken up at a young age, and I'm blessed for that. So I'll use the example of people go through a job or a, you know, a career or, you know, a situation that they hate for a very long time and they just put up with it.
Right. So I'm blessed that I've had that at a younger age, which has allowed me to do. To. To make some changes that, you know, probably would have taken me being sick and tired of being sick and tired, you know, before I actually made the leap and. And done things like.
[00:18:46] Speaker C: Got it.
[00:18:47] Speaker A: I'm just so excited for what's. What's to come, how many people I get to help. Yeah.
[00:18:53] Speaker C: See, I love that. The fact that you want to impact and help people at such a young age, and you have the ability to discern between what you have, what you have, and what could have been lost.
And just having you in this world is a blessing for all of us. So I'm so glad you are. You're here, and I'm just. I rarely have trouble speaking, but knowing that it's only been a couple years. Jared, it's. You're really inspiring human being and. And I thank you for sharing. Absolutely. Absolutely.
[00:19:37] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:19:38] Speaker C: So tell us more about the. Is it the. The company you work with, what's the name of the company? You could just tell us who they are and how.
[00:19:48] Speaker A: So I'll just do a quick background. So I've always been an entrepreneur and even through all of that I was, I was starting and running businesses. I've, you know, sold one. And so the coaching business is the third business technically.
[00:20:07] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:20:08] Speaker A: In my entrepreneurial career. And I think I'm an entrepreneur at heart. I just love the building of business, helping people out and you know, being able to be the source of your, your labor and your fruits and everything. Like I, I truly love the flexibility with it. But Southwestern Consulting is who I've partnered with.
We, you know, we do sales and leadership coaching and you know, there's about 170 of us across the country.
There's 30 more in 17 other countries. So we're worldwide and we change lives through one on one coaching. That's the bare bones of it. So most people get in through the sales and leadership side. We come in and we speak for free for, for teams and stuff or we'll do one on ones and, and things like that to get the word out about coaching. But man, I think it's like 22,000 people in the last 13 years have been through our one on one coaching program.
[00:21:11] Speaker C: Okay. Wow.
You gave me a long history.
[00:21:17] Speaker A: Yeah. So Southwestern family of companies has been around for about 165 years.
[00:21:22] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:21:23] Speaker A: A long time.
[00:21:24] Speaker C: I love that. And you mentioned something to me beforehand about the month, how they do half the year. Can you explain that?
How they, their campaigns.
[00:21:36] Speaker A: We do campaigns. So basically halves of the year is a new campaign.
[00:21:39] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:21:40] Speaker A: So July 1st, we just started a new campaign, basically a fresh year.
[00:21:45] Speaker C: So I love that. Yeah, I love that. I wish a lot of companies can get that. Yeah. Do fresh years after six months because you know, people's attention span is not, not that long. That 12 month thing seems like an arduous process.
[00:21:58] Speaker A: Yeah, well, it's also, it's also a great way to focus on. So it's like, okay, whatever I did, you know, in the first half of the year doesn't matter. Starting July 1st. I love that, you know, it's a new time to either be beat what you did or, you know, forget it. Right.
[00:22:16] Speaker C: Yep. Yeah. It helps you refresh too. Yeah. Decompress, refresh. Learn from mistakes. Create successes out of failures in a shorter time frame. I love that. I love that.
[00:22:27] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:22:29] Speaker C: So, you know, I certainly definitely know that the audience has, has grasped the essence of Jared Fracker. So guys, you're going to want to get in touch with Jared. Trust me, best way to do it, his website, jaredfracker.com. that's J-A-R-E-F-R-A C-K-E-R.com and within that you'll find his link tree that will give you access to all the different links, whether for his company and personal and, and be able to get in touch with him. And it's definitely worth a conversation. Absolutely worth the conversation. So. Yeah. So. All right, so this is going to be interesting. I'm going to ask. I got two questions to ask.
[00:23:14] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:23:16] Speaker C: The first question, you're sitting down with 7 to 10 year old Jared Fracker.
[00:23:23] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:23:24] Speaker C: A mere 18 to 20 years ago, less than that. My goodness. And you want to give him advice about life from what you know now, what advice are you going to give him?
You. You.
[00:23:43] Speaker A: You've got all these great questions today, Drew. You're. Makes you think a little bit, right?
[00:23:49] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:23:50] Speaker A: Nobody. Nobody cares.
Nobody cares.
I mean, you know, all you can do is put your best foot forward, strive to, towards a common goal that you want to get to and you know, nobody cares what you look like in the process.
[00:24:10] Speaker C: I love that.
[00:24:11] Speaker A: I love, nobody cares where you came from or, or, you know, what, what you're going through or. I mean, people care, but, you know, nobody cares. Right?
[00:24:19] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:24:20] Speaker A: And until you can make them care, I love that.
[00:24:23] Speaker C: Because, Jared, all of our limiting beliefs come from the outside world.
[00:24:30] Speaker A: That's not something that's. You're born with.
[00:24:32] Speaker C: No, no, no. All our limiting beliefs come from the outside world. And we can control what we let in and what we let out. So that's beautiful, beautiful advice. All right, switch hats. Now you're talking to young Jared, the young entrepreneur, young businessman, and you've got some advice on business. What are you going to tell him?
[00:24:59] Speaker A: I would say put yourself out there more so like in this world today. Right. You're, you're a great example with this podcast. It's like nobody would be able to hear what we have going on. What you have to show people. Like my story. Your story.
[00:25:18] Speaker C: Right.
[00:25:18] Speaker A: Just all the people that you've had on this podcast. No one would be able to know that if it wasn't for, you know, the Internet, social media, and just putting yourself out there. Right. Agreeing to this, scheduling it, making it happen.
[00:25:32] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:25:33] Speaker A: So my advice to him would, would be to put yourself out there. I did a lot of stuff behind closed doors and, you know, I just, I didn't think it was important.
Well, I do now, so I wish I would have done that before.
[00:25:50] Speaker C: Well, I'm thankful that you're in your 20s and have learned that, because the more you share your story and talk with others, the more I hope they will start opening up and realizing that nobody cares. And let's put it, we can even say the people who need to be in your life are the ones who. Who are going to care about being there for you in a positive sense.
[00:26:20] Speaker A: And that's a great way to put it.
[00:26:22] Speaker C: Yeah. And so if you're able to, the younger you are discern between those people who are going to help bring you up versus bring you down, then you'll know who to align with.
[00:26:33] Speaker A: Yeah. And just get. Get the toxic out of your life. Get rid of toxicity. You know, focus on. Focus on what you can control. Right.
And at the end of the day, you know, let.
Let the rest, you know, of the chips fall where they may.
[00:26:49] Speaker C: Absolutely, absolutely. Well, Jared, I want to thank you for a coming on to be like being in my life. I got again, thank Frank Agan for the introduction.
Thank you for being the human being you are.
Thank you for being willing to put yourself out there and share with others so it can help them. Just thank you for doing what you're doing, man. Keep it up.
[00:27:14] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I appreciate it. I mean, like I said, you know, without platforms like yours and just your mission behind what you do, man, like, you know, just all this stuff falls on deaf ears, right?
[00:27:28] Speaker C: Yeah, absolutely. Again, my friend, always good to see you. And let's please, let's keep in touch. This is not the last time we talk, all right?
[00:27:35] Speaker A: Of course. Thanks, Drew.
[00:27:37] Speaker C: Absolutely. Hey, everybody. You go out there and take care of yourselves, please.
